Was a nice stay in Hunder, B2 Retreat had good food and a nice clean bedroom with a sunny balcony and gret views of the mountains. Went up the valley to Turtuk and they would not allow us to go to the border view post, only Indians can go, so had to turn around and headed for Leh, 210 kms away. The valley wasn't  as impressive  as yesterday's, but Richard thought it was way better, so there you go. It was a beautiful  ride and the mountain  colours jumped out at you, there must be something  in those mountains.  Weather was gret again with some high clouds but sunny  and hot. Went over Khardung La Pass again which was a treat and from the top we could see Leh in the distance surrounded by snow capped mountains.  Went back to our usual haunt PlayShayShay Guest house and are the only one's  here tonight. I left my short pants at B2 and tried to buy some in Leh but have had no luck.Went to Chopsticks for a beer and a lightmeal, one of the best p...

HUNDER - NUBRA VALLEY 181 km 29-8-25

Left Panamik after an early 6:30am breakfast. Headed north up the valley and then the military  police told us we can only go as far as Warishaand only locals are allowed further to Base Camp. Dang it, I must has missed Warisha and we turned around two kilometers before Base Camp, which is a large military base. Being so close to China and Pakistan there are military bases everywhere. Very impressive  canyon, the pictures do it no justice, just the size of everything is overwhelming, the colours of the rock mountains are magnificent.  Rode back down the one and only road and headed for  Hunder where we found B2 Resort which has nice rooms overlooking  the mountains and for $23 you get dinner and breakfast and good wifi.    View from my window ...

PANAMIK KHARDUNG LA PASS 5359 metres -- 17982 ft. 165kms. 28-8-25

After 4 days stuck in Leh due to the rain was nice to be back on the bike. Straight out of Leh you start to climb up Khardungla Pass to 5359 metres. The climb never seemed to end and was covered in a blanket of snow and my hands were freezing. It use to be the highest pass in the world but now is the second highest.  Turned out to be a beautiful  day with sunshine and blue skies. We dropped down the other side which took forever to get down into the Nubra Valley floor. Never seen such magnificent, huge valleys with enormous mountains towering on either side. The valley has like two fingers and we rode the right side valley and stopped at Pannamik at 2:30pm, took way longer than I thought and we are about halfway up. Have a real nice guesthouse with a gret mattress, dinner and breakfast for INR 3000. ($34)     OMELETTE AND COFFEE ...
