CHENANI  TO SRINIGAR 

They have no idea when the road will open to Jammu, which has been closed for six days now and is the only road linking the north to the south in Kashmir. Trucks are lined up along the route for 20 kms. 
Can't  stay in last night's  hotel another day so we have decided to go back to Leh and work our way back. So left at 11:30am back up to Srinigar to Treebo Hotel where I got my same room again. Went across the road to the Lemon Tree Hotel for a healthy meal now that my stomach is back to normal. Don't  know what the plan or route will be but all the landslides have caused havoc for everyone.

    The hotel, everyone  waiting for the road to open, some have been here for four days.

    Another excavators pays the price working in this region with so many landslides.

Am going home earlier than planned, have seen everything  I had planned and just can't  ride around in this heat and traffic to see anymore  stuff. It has been gret, Ladakh was the best, these big cities not so much but glad we travelled to Agra, Jaipur and Varanasi.  If you don't  go you won't  know. Richard has to wait till the 6th October  to go home, we got on well the entire time, he was skeptical but felt the same, he was so easy going, unlike me. The main thing was we made it through the mountains  without any issues, my concern all along was the Rockwall and landslides, really bothered me as I saw the damage along the way. A lot of people perished in all the landslides due to the catastrophic  rains they had while we were here. HUNDER-TURTUK-LEH 295 kms 9.5 hrs. 30 August 2025

Was a nice stay in Hunder, B2 Retreat had good food and a nice clean bedroom with a sunny balcony and gret views of the mountains. Went up the valley to Turtuk and they would not allow us to go to the border view post, only Indians can go, so had to turn around and headed for Leh, 210 kms away. The valley wasn't  as impressive  as yesterday's, but Richard thought it was way better, so there you go. It was a beautiful  ride and the mountain  colours jumped out at you, there must be something  in those mountains.  Weather was gret again with some high clouds but sunny  and hot. Went over Khardung La Pass again which was a treat and from the top we could see Leh in the distance surrounded by snow capped mountains.  Went back to our usual haunt PlayShayShay Guest house and are the only one's  here tonight. BACK TO DELHI THEN TO VARANASI 20th in Delhi ,21st to 23rd in Varanasi

We left at 6am for the final ride up to Delhi. Went on a nice toll highway for 150kms that we were not meant to be on, no bikes allowed. They caught us at a toll booth and we had to finish the last stretch on another road into Delhi. Got to our hotel near the station which is fairly decent and then handed back the bikes.  The next morning  we went to the station at 5am to catch the train to Varanasi. I bought the tickets in Jaipur at the hotel and it turns out we can't  use them as they are for locals. The guy at the tourist board managed to change the return ticket and booked us a flight there at 10:30am. So got a taxi to the military airport, and flew to Varanasi.  The Varanasi  hotel was tiny and not to clean, but in a good location. I had to grind and bear it. We then walked down the dirty alleyways and saw some sights, a lot of weird sights to be seen.
