BACK TO DELHI THEN TO VARANASI 20th in Delhi ,21st to 23rd in Varanasi

We left at 6am for the final ride up to Delhi. Went on a nice toll highway for 150kms that we were not meant to be on, no bikes allowed. They caught us at a toll booth and we had to finish the last stretch on another road into Delhi.

Got to our hotel near the station which is fairly decent and then handed back the bikes. 

The next morning  we went to the station at 5am to catch the train to Varanasi. I bought the tickets in Jaipur at the hotel and it turns out we can't  use them as they are for locals. The guy at the tourist board managed to change the return ticket and booked us a flight there at 10:30am. So got a taxi to the military airport, and flew to Varanasi. 
The Varanasi  hotel was tiny and not to clean, but in a good location. I had to grind and bear it. We then walked down the dirty alleyways and saw some sights, a lot of weird sights to be seen. The Ganges had just flooded the place ten days ago and where they normally create the bodies was under water so they were doing nearby on a flat rooftop type place. 
Next day did the same routine ,walked the alleys, dodging the dogshit and cow shit and enjoying the fragrance of the alleys. 
On the 23rd September  we got the 3pm triangle to Delhi which takes eigjt hours and on top of it then guy didn't  get me executive class, but it was okay, and we got into Delhi at 11pm and went back to our same hotel.

SHIMLA 11 AUGUST 130kms.

Was a long slow wet day to Shimla which is at about 2000 metres. It took us about six and a half hours to do 130 kms virtually  all in the rain, the road was mostly one lane up the mountains and twisty all the way, but not nice twisty. Finally  got to Shimla and got a room and went were soaked and my passport was soaked, had it in my ''waterproof " suite and now is ruined. Busy drying  out my gear now but the forecast doesn't look good for the next few days, so will decide in the morning where to go, if anywhere.     View from my window.

NEW DELHI 9 AUGUST 2025

Had a 6 hour flight to Addis then anothe 6 hours to New Delhi arriving at 8:30am. Got a taxi to hotel which is 28kms away to Park Plaza Hotel, near the bike rental place.  Had some lunch and then fell asleep for the rest of the day, could not wake up. Went out to eat and had a cold Kingfisher and got back to the hotel and slept through the night till Richard called me at 7:30am.  We had breakfast  and caught up from last time we were together in Baghdad, he had a heart attack when he got to London and now has 7 stints, but other than that is good to go. Got a tuk tub to go fetch our bikes 2kms away, and the driving is hectic here and anything goes. We have a 200cc Hero Pulse 2022, was meant to be a 2024 but wasn't. So we are all set for tomorrow's  departure north. A friend that hosted me in Israel is in town and am going to have breakfast with him in the morning at 7 am and then will try to get out of Delhi.     Vie...
