PANGONG LAKE 4 220m 152 kms 20-8-25

We rented two Royal Enfields, Himalayan 450cc for $23 a day. North of Leh they do not allow rental bikes from Delhi and you need to get a permit to travel in the area.
Picked up the bikes at 9 am and headed  off to Pangong Lake, 152 kms away. Had to go up Chang La Pass and it was wet and cold and one helluva climb up to 17 668 feet, 5 380 metre. The road is narrow and am on the steep cliff side with no guard rails and not the best road conditions, just avoided looking down. You could not look around you had to focus on the road and moving over every time a truck or car came at you, no room for a mishap.
Got to the top finally and  my hands were freezing and felt okay at that elevation.
Then descended down the other side and it was sunshine and blue skies and temperature  shot up to 72° F. Stopped at Tangste for a omelette and topped up with petrol and continued down for another 35 kilometers to the lake.
Pangong Lake sits at 4 220m and is 135kms long with 25% in India and the rest extends into China.
There is a huge military  presence here and everywhere north of Leh, place id dotted with military camps and checkpoints.
Found a decent room for $21 which includes  dinner and breakfast, I just can't  wait.
